In the afternoon I ran to the Columbus Monument which sits near the port. The monument was constructed in 1888 in honor of Columbus’ first voyage to the New World. The base of the monument consists of plaques telling the story of Columbus approaching the Spanish Court for support in his exhibition.
The French have not taken offense, so all the original plaques remain.
