After checking in at the hotel, located near the Arc de Triomphe, we hit the ground running on our first day in Paris. We walked over to the Arc de Triomphe where they just finished celebrating the anniversary of VE Day. The monument is absolutely beautiful. Pictures don’t do justice of just how large it is and how beautiful the architecture is.
The Eiffel Tower
Next, we walked over to the Eiffel Tower. We were supposed to meet a group for a skip-the-line access tour at 4:30 and well, we didn’t read the instructions correctly and missed the meeting point and ultimately the tour. (All the crowds and stupid construction didn’t help either.) Oh well. These lovely pictures will have to do:
We then made our way over to The Louvre. Until standing there, I had no idea how sprawling the former palace really is. The architecture is absolutely beautiful. Nik and I knew that we were only stopping there to take exterior pictures and walk around the grounds. It was just right for us. Also located there is the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, built between 1806 and 1808 to commemorate Napoleon’s military victories of the previous year.
Le Coq Rico
We ended our first day in Paris with dinner at Le Coq Rico and walking around the 18th arrondissement.
